Insurance moves: Aon, FM, Midwestern Insurance and Westaim

A series of senior appointments across broking, specialty underwriting and insurance-focused investment has underscored how firms are reshaping their leadership structures in response to capital, growth and transformation agendas. Recent moves at Aon, Midwestern Insurance and others reflect a focus on risk capital, sector-specific expansion and regional operational leadership.

Aon names CEO of risk capital

Aon plc has appointed Joe Peiser (pictured, left) as CEO of risk capital. Based in Dublin, Peiser will lead Aon's risk capital capabilities across commercial risk and reinsurance solutions.

Peiser has more than 30 years of industry experience spanning broking leadership, risk consulting and client advisory in North America, the UK and Bermuda. He joined the company in 2021 as commercial risk leader for North America and became global CEO of commercial risk in 2023. The company said a search is underway for a new CEO of commercial risk.

In his new role, Peiser will work closely with solution line and regional leaders, as well as Aon Business Services, to deliver more connected, analytics-enabled capital solutions.

FM elevates Wrinkle to lead Eastern division and strategy portfolio

Commercial property insurer FM has promoted Steve Wrinkle (pictured, right) to senior vice president, Eastern division manager.

In his expanded role, Wrinkle will be responsible for the operations and management of FM’s Eastern region. He will also retain his current responsibilities as head of strategy and business transformation, including oversight of the company’s portfolio of strategic initiatives.

Wrinkle joined FM in 1990 as a field engineer in the company’s Dallas operations. Over the course of his career, he has held a range of engineering and client service management roles, including operations senior vice president and chemical operations manager.

Midwestern Insurance appoints SVP of occupational accident

Jack Coleman has been named as senior vice president of Midwestern Insurance Alliance's occupational accident division. Midwestern is a subsidiary of K2 Insurance Services.

Coleman brings more than 40 years of personal and commercial lines experience to the role. Prior to joining Midwestern, he served as president, commercial and specialty at Trawick International. 

Commenting on his new role, Coleman said he was looking forward to contributing to the next phase of the platform's development.

Westaim strengthens C-suite

The Westaim Corporation has announced a series of leadership appointments, effective April 1, 2026, as it looks to advance its long-term strategy and strengthen its integrated insurance and asset management platform.

Matthew Skurbe will become president and chief operating officer. In the new role, he will oversee strategic and operational initiatives across Westaim’s platform.

Skurbe has more than 25 years of financial services experience covering investment management, risk management, capital markets, operational and financial responsibilities. Prior to Westaim, he served as a senior managing director, chief operating officer and chief financial officer of CC Capital.

Meanwhile, Nikita Klassen will join the company as chief financial officer, with responsibility for leading all financial and control processes. 

Klassen brings more than 15 years of experience. She joins the company from Mount Logan Capital, where she was chief financial officer and corporate secretary.
