Open GI has appointed Stuart Walters (pictured above) as a non-executive director, effective immediately. The insurance services provider said that Walters brings extensive experience in insurance technology to the role.

Walters served as chief information officer at BGL Group from 2013 to 2021. He managed technology and digital strategies for BGL and its subsidiary, Comparethemarket.

The appointment reunites Walters with Open GI Chairman Peter Thompson. Thompson led BGL as CEO from 2018 to 2023.

Simon Badley, Open GI CEO, said: “Stuart is a fantastic addition to our team of non-executive directors.”

Badley noted that Walters’ appointment aligns with the company’s strategy to strengthen its technology expertise. He said Walters’ background will support Open GI’s role as a technology partner in the insurance sector.

Walters currently serves as part-time chief technology officer at Trinity Cups. He previously held the chief information officer role at Parcel2go.com.

“Open GI is at an exciting point in its lifecycle, and I am delighted to be joining the talented and dedicated team and to come back to the world of insurance,” Walters said.

Last month, Open GI partnered with Alps to integrate add-on insurance products, such as landlord legal protection, into its platform. This collaboration aims to enhance broker offerings and streamline client services.

Open GI also named Andy Brockway as chief technology officer to lead its technology directorate earlier this year. Brockway’s two decades of experience, including roles at Confused.com, support the company’s focus on advancing digital solutions. Walters’ role focuses on advancing Open GI’s technology development, with his expertise expected to support the company’s transformation initiatives.

Also last month, Open GI appointed Phil Evans as product director. Evans will align the company’s product offerings with client needs and explore new insurtech opportunities.
