HDI Global has named Nikita Tikhonov (pictured above) as the new head of marine global risk, effective Sept. 1.

Tikhonov will be based at the company’s headquarters in Hannover and will report to Dr. Carsten Schulte, head of marine underwriting. He will lead a team of five professionals focused on the company’s marine value proposition.

Tikhonov succeeds Felix Cassau, who is departing to pursue new opportunities at Hannover Re.

Tikhonov began his career as a marine and property underwriter in Russia before joining HDI Global in 2018. His initial responsibilities included establishing and developing a new portfolio in marine cargo and accident & health insurance.

In his most recent role as a global risk underwriter, he has supported local underwriters in HDI Global branch offices worldwide with the development of their automotive portfolios.

“I am very grateful and truly excited for this opportunity to guide our Marine Global Risk Hubs towards our vision of underwriting excellence. I believe it will be a fascinating journey,” Tikhonov said regarding his new role.

Schulte also commented on the appointment, stating, “Nikita brings strong expertise, energy, and a fresh perspective to the role. I am confident that under his leadership, we will continue to act as our clients’ and brokers’ preferred Partner in Transformation as he will drive our marine global risk agenda forward. I wish Nikita much success in his new role.”

It is worth noting that it was only earlier this year when HDI Global appointed Schulte as its new global head of marine. Schulte previously led the development of the technical and strategic services division, where he focused on enhancing underwriting excellence and fostering collaboration across the company’s divisions.

The leadership changes also include Alexander Schlei, who has moved to the role of head of technical and strategic services. Both Schulte and Schlei report directly to Dirk Höring, a member of HDI Global’s executive board responsible for property, energy, engineering, marine, and HDI Risk Consulting.

HDI Global’s marine division manages global underwriting operations for marine risks, providing cargo and marine coverage to corporate and commercial clients worldwide.
