Lockton has appointed Magnus Sjöstrand as head of Property for its Swedish operations, a newly created role designed to build the broker’s client base in the country.

Sjöstrand will take up the position on September 1, 2025, reporting to Johan Lindvall, chief executive of Lockton Sweden. Based in Stockholm, he will work with colleagues across Sweden, London and the US to develop property insurance solutions for clients.

With more than 15 years’ experience in the sector, Sjöstrand was most recently senior property underwriter at XL Insurance Company SE. He has also served as underwriting manager for Property in the Nordics at AXA XL and XL Insurance Company SE.

Lindvall said Sjöstrand’s appointment would strengthen Lockton Sweden’s proposition for multinational clients, noting that the broker’s independence and client-focused model had already supported growth in the country. Sjöstrand said he looked forward to supporting the existing portfolio and working with Lockton’s network to open new opportunities in the property insurance market.

The move comes as Sweden’s property and casualty (P&C) insurance sector continues to grow. Premium income for non-life insurance, which includes property, reached nearly SEK 26 billion in the fourth quarter of 2024, up about 7% year on year, according to Svensk Försäkring. The market remains concentrated, with four insurers, namely Länsförsäkringar, If Skadeförsäkring, Trygg-Hansa and Folksam, accounting for more than 80% of non-life premiums.

Sweden is the largest P&C insurance market in the Nordic region, generating about €10 billion in premiums in 2023. Industry analysts project steady growth, driven by digital distribution, household demand and coverage linked to climate adaptation. Property business remains a key line alongside auto and liability, providing space for brokers to compete with tailored solutions for commercial and multinational risks.

Lockton has been expanding its Nordic presence, with recent appointments including Lindvall as chief executive of Lockton Sweden and Patrick Rönnqvist as head of Affinity.
