There have been a series of senior appointments across the insurance and financial services sector in the last 24hrs.

Mosaic head of financial institutions and professional liability

Mosaic Insurance has hired US-based executive Sachin Warty (pictured above, left) to lead its global financial institutions and professional liability business as the firm plans to expand both product lines across North America.

Warty, based in Chicago, will join the specialty carrier Dec. 15 as global head of financial institutions and professional liability (FinPro).

Reporting to Warty will be UK-based Francesca Harland, who becomes head of international, professional liability, and Jacqueline Hall-Shaw, who has been named head of international, financial institutions.

As part of that reorganization, Mosaic has also promoted two existing executives with mandates tied to distribution and market engagement. Former financial institutions head Tom Dilley becomes global head of client engagement, while Danny Clack, deputy active underwriter of Mosaic Syndicate 1609, has been appointed head of broker engagement, international; both will report to global engagement officer Yosha DeLong while continuing in underwriting roles.

Warty joins Mosaic from Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance, where he co-led the US financial institutions business for the past five years after previously serving as a lead underwriter for financial institutions across the US Central and Western regions. Earlier in his career, he held underwriting positions at CNA and Travelers.

Earlier in the year, Mosaic also announced the expansion of its advisory board, adding three new members with backgrounds in insurance, cybersecurity, and private equity.

Lockton marine risks and liability practice leader

In the brokerage segment, Lockton has appointed Jake Byrne (pictured above, right) as US marine risks and liability practice leader, a role focused on overseeing the broker’s marine practice strategy and service to clients across the country. Lockton said Byrne’s appointment reflects its effort to deepen marine expertise for US and international clients.

Since joining Lockton in 2020, Byrne has worked in a dual capacity for Lockton’s global marine practice and as a representative of Lockton P.L. Ferrari, which the firm describes as the oldest and largest specialist protection and indemnity broker in marine insurance.

In his new position, Byrne will be responsible for driving marine strategy across Lockton’s US operations, including enhancing client service, making targeted investments to support growth and expanding the firm’s presence in the marine sector. He succeeds Jana Byron, a longtime Lockton leader and maritime law specialist who died unexpectedly in August.

Before joining Lockton, Byrne spent nearly nine years at Aon, concentrating on complex international marine accounts such as cruise lines, shipping companies, charities, commodity brokers and mega yachts. He holds an MBA in finance and marketing and a bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Miami and is based in Tampa, Fla.

In September, the broker also announced new leadership appointments within its US casualty business, naming Peter Rapciewicz as US casualty leader and Jessica Cullen as head of excess casualty and operations.

Westfield enterprise CIO

On the carrier technology front, Westfield has named Lloyd Scholz (pictured immediately above) as enterprise chief information officer (CIO), a newly created role that will report directly to CEO and board chair Ed Largent. Scholz will oversee the development and execution of a business-driven technology strategy to support Westfield’s growth, diversification and global expansion.

His remit includes advancing technology, data and analytics capabilities across Westfield’s global property and casualty operations. The company said the new enterprise CIO position and Scholz’s appointment are intended to strengthen its technology leadership as it expands its presence in the global P&C market.

Scholz joins Westfield with more than 25 years of technology leadership experience in financial services and insurance. Most recently, he served as senior managing director and chief technology officer at Markel, leading global technology teams across North America, Europe, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific.

Prior to that, he spent 16 years at Capital One in a series of leadership roles focused on data engineering, analytics platforms, cloud strategy and enterprise technology transformation.

MassMutual board director

In a separate governance-related move, MassMutual has appointed Michael T. Rollings to its board of directors. Rollings most recently served as chief financial officer and managing director of finance at Vanguard Group from 2016 until his retirement in June.

In his Vanguard role, Rollings led financial strategy and planning for the global asset manager and was responsible for more than 1,800 people across treasury, financial planning and analysis, accounting operations and fund financial services. He also served as a strategic advisor to Vanguard’s CEO, board and other stakeholders.

Rollings is returning to familiar ground at MassMutual, where he previously spent 15 years in leadership roles, including leading the capital markets and treasury operations team and serving as chief financial officer from 2006 to 2016.

Over the course of his career, Rollings has served on several boards, including the Financial Accounting Foundation, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, the Springfield Museums and the Georgetown University Board of Regents.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Georgetown University and an MBA from Northwestern University’s J.L. Kellogg School of Management.
