Kovrilo, a managing general agent incubated by Mission, has launched with a focus on providing modular commercial insurance products for small and medium-sized enterprises in the UK.

The MGA is led by co-founders Tim Smith (pictured above, left) and Sonia Habib (pictured above, right). The company said its platform allows clients to select specific coverage areas, including property, liability, cyber, legal and terrorism, rather than purchasing bundled policies.

Kovrilo is the latest entrant in what the Managing General Agents' Association (MGAA) describes as the country's fastest-growing insurance sector. According to the MGAA, the trade body represents over £15.1 billion of underwriting capacity and more than 430 members.

Michael Keating, CEO of the MGAA, said the sector's growth was no passing trend.

"There isn't an MGA bubble to be burst. It is recognized as a significant model of trading, both from an insurer capital perspective but also from a broker perspective," he said.

Mission's expansion

Kovrilo marks Mission's ninth UK MGA launch and the second announced in 2025. The Accelerant-backed incubator, which began with Ignite Specialty Risk in 2022, now operates 29 MGAs with over 80 product lines globally.

Ross Dingwall, who took over as CEO of Mission Underwriters UK & Europe in May 2025, said the incubator has additional MGAs in the pipeline, with plans to nearly double its UK and EU footprint to 15 by the end of 2026.

The company has secured a five-year capacity agreement to support its operations and plans to scale through partnerships with established brokers and selected insurtech providers.

Platform and service model

Kovrilo stated that its model is designed to give brokers and their clients more control over coverage selection. The platform offers instant quotes, automated document processing and direct access to underwriters. The MGA said it operates with a claims-led service model alongside its underwriting approach.

Sonia Habib, co-founder of Kovrilo, said technology forms a core part of the company's underwriting approach but emphasized the role of human judgment.

"It's crucial that we pair this with broker-centred human underwriters to provide brokers and clients with the attention and peace of mind they deserve," Habib said.

Tim Smith, co-founder, added that the company aims to match the pace of modern business operations.
