Willis, a WTW business, has announced the formation of a dedicated residential real estate team within its real estate practice.

The new unit expands the firm's existing property sector operations by focusing on key residential segments, including build-to-rent (BTR), student accommodation, ground rent investment, managing agents, retirement living, property investment and right to manage enterprises.

The team will be co-led by Naomi Palmer, divisional director, real estate practice, and Shaun Grainger (pictured above), residential development director, real estate practice. Palmer has more than 12 years of industry experience with a focus on managing large-scale residential insurance programmes and operational process delivery. Grainger joined the firm with two decades of sales experience, working with real estate clients and professional advisers across the sector.

The group will also include Mike Marrill in the role of claims executive. His responsibilities will centre on managing residential property-related claims. WTW stated that Marrill’s appointment is intended to strengthen claims handling capacity and support continuity of service for clients across the residential portfolio.

Paul Turnbull, managing director of Willis' real estate practice, said the launch of the residential team is part of the firm's broader service development strategy.

“Collectively, the team brings a deep understanding of the residential landscape, as well as operational and claims excellence, which will be resolute to achieving our goals and providing commitment to our clients,” Turnbull said.

The residential real estate team complements recent senior hires in the broader practice, including Lauren McKay and Liam Hebron as directors in London, and Craig Johnson as executive director in Manchester.

Grainger also joined as part of this wave of appointments, which WTW said is intended to expand the firm’s capacity across the UK and enhance the service provided to clients in regional markets.

The expansion also supports the firm’s efforts to serve a broader client spectrum. The real estate practice now engages a range of clients including real estate investment trusts (REITs), private equity real estate (PERE) firms, pension funds, asset and investment managers, and private landlords.
