Insurance moves: Texel, Westfield Specialty, Lumera, Swedish Club and Tryg

The Uk and European insurance and insurtech sectors continue to see a wave of strategic appointments and operational developments.

Texel Foundation appoints foundation manager

The Texel Foundation, the philanthropic arm of independent broker The Texel Group, has appointed Emily Bild (pictured, left) as foundation manager.

Bild brings more than 20 years of experience in the non-profit sector, including roles with UNICEF, Plan International and GoPhilanthropic Foundation, where she was director of programs. She also serves on the board of trustees for Railway Children and is co-director of Better Funding, an initiative promoting equitable philanthropic practices.

Westfield Specialty launches cyber offering

Westfield Specialty International has named Ben Watson (pictured, right) as class underwriter to lead its newly launched cyber team, effective Jan. 1, 2026. 

Watson has over nine years of experience in cyber and technology underwriting, previously holding senior roles at Zurich and Beazley.

The cyber team is part of Westfield Specialty's expansion of its financial lines portfolio and London underwriting capability. 

Lumera AB appoints new member of board

Insurtech company Lumera has appointed Duncan Howorth to its board of directors, effective from December. Howorth previously chaired ITM, a data management and tech solutions provider acquired by Lumera last year, and has served as senior advisor to Lumera UK. He also holds a non-executive directorship at NatWest Cushon.

Jonas Alfredson, CEO of Lumera Group, said Howorth brings strategic insight and sector experience, particularly in UK life and pensions. Howorth expressed interest in supporting Lumera’s international expansion and strategic direction as the company develops its growth strategy in largely nationally shaped markets.

The Swedish Club appoints finance chief

The Swedish Club has appointed Markus Johansson as chief financial officer.

Johansson brings over 20 years of international financial leadership experience, including previous roles at Elseco, EF Education First, and GAC Group. 

Tryg A/S makes leadership changes in supervisory board

Jukka Pertola, chair of Tryg's supervisory board since 2017, has announced he will not seek reelection at the company's annual general meeting in March 2026.

Pertola oversaw significant growth and strategic transitions for Tryg, including the group’s CEO transition in 2023 and expansion across Scandinavia.

The supervisory board has nominated Steffen Kragh as the new chair and Benedicte Bakke Agerup as deputy chair. Vibeke Krag has been nominated as a new member of both boards.
