A series of senior appointments has been announced across the UK and international insurance market, spanning underwriting, operations, data and board-level oversight.

Open GI creates head of data role

Specialist insurance technology provider Open GI has appointed Thomas Bailey (pictured, left) to the newly created role of head of data.

Bailey joins from Halfords, where he was data engineering manager. He will lead Open GI’s data strategy and oversee the development of higher‑value data products, supported by a team of 10 data specialists.

The role is designed to help colleagues and partners use data more effectively to win and retain business, improve performance and unlock new propositions. Bailey’s background includes positions at Aldi, Next, Bibby Financial Services, St Modwen and Halfords, with a particular focus on modernising data and machine learning engineering practices, enabling generative AI use cases and managing platform implementation and cloud migration projects.

ALA Insurance brings in Greenhill as NED

GAP and specialist motor provider ALA Insurance has appointed market veteran Scott Greenhill (pictured, right) as a non‑executive director, adding more than three decades of experience across insurers, Lloyd’s syndicates and broking to its board.

Greenhill’s career includes senior underwriting and leadership roles at LV= Broker, Atlanta Group and Autonet, alongside earlier positions in Lloyd’s and specialist motor underwriting businesses. He has also founded and led several ventures, including Agile Developments and Enterprise Insurance & TPA, building expertise in underwriting, capacity provision and telematics, among others.

Greenhill is expected to provide input on underwriting discipline, insurer partnerships, capacity, product management and portfolio performance, with a particular emphasis on using data and technology as levers for disciplined expansion.

Hamilton names CUO of London specialty platform

Hamilton Insurance Group has appointed long‑standing London market executive Sinead Cormican (pictured immediately above) as chief underwriting officer (CUO) of Hamilton Global Specialty, its London‑based underwriting platform.

Cormican, who also serves as active underwriter of Lloyd's Syndicate 4000, will take on the role effective immediately. She replaces Miles Osorio, who is set to retire at the end of June.

A member of the Hamilton Global Specialty leadership team for several years, Cormican has been closely involved in building out the platform’s underwriting capabilities. With more than 25 years’ market experience, she is expected to oversee underwriting performance and portfolio strategy as Hamilton navigates the next phase of the market cycle.

Meanwhile, Hamilton has also expanded the remit of Richard Northcott, its head of marine and energy, who has been appointed head of business development strategy. In the expanded position, Northcott will lead strategic development initiatives across all Hamilton Global Specialty classes of business, with a particular focus on deepening broker and client relationships.

BHSI appoints global head of transactional liability

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has named Rory O’Broin as global head of transactional liability, enhancing its executive and professional lines leadership.

O’Broin brings extensive international experience in M&A transactional liability, contingent risk, and tax liability insurance, underpinned by deep legal expertise on complex cross‑border deals. He is based in BHSI’s London office.

Policy Expert appoints COO

Policy Expert has named Richard Kirby as chief operating officer, further bolstering the insurer’s senior leadership team as it targets its next phase of expansion. He succeeds co‑founder and long‑serving COO Adam Powell, who leaves the role after 15 years with the business.

Kirby brings more than 20 years’ experience in operational value creation and transformation roles spanning insurance, private equity and technology‑enabled businesses. He joins from PIB Insurance Broking, where as chief integration and transformation officer, he supported acquisition‑led growth across European markets.

Before PIB, Kirby spent over six years at private equity firm LDC as partner and head of portfolio value creation, leading a team working across a portfolio of around 60 mid‑market investments. Earlier in his career he held senior roles at Aon, including managing director and EMEA COO of health & benefits, and at Marsh as managing director, EMEA CIO and M&A lead.
