Allianz Commercial has appointed James Raven (pictured) as regional head of liability for the UK, effective immediately.
In his new role, Raven will oversee the large corporate liability business, with responsibility for the portfolio's profitability and strategic direction.
Raven succeeds Luke Baker, who earlier this year became Allianz Commercial's director UK global and AGCS SE branch manager. He will report to Baker and remain based in the company's London office.
Raven joined Allianz Commercial in 2022 and brings over 25 years of experience in the insurance industry, having held senior underwriting and leadership positions at several major insurers. His background includes extensive work in corporate casualty across multiple sectors, giving him a deep understanding of complex liability risks.
According to Allianz, Raven’s appointment reflects the company’s focus on strengthening its UK liability operations and maintaining underwriting discipline amid a challenging claims environment. The business continues to target growth in large corporate risks, where tailored liability solutions are in high demand due to evolving exposures in areas such as supply chain risk, ESG-related liabilities, and emerging technologies.
Baker said Raven has consistently demonstrated expertise in providing bespoke liability solutions and has played a key role in supporting Allianz’s broader commercial strategy. His appointment is expected to help drive further collaboration across Allianz’s global teams and enhance service delivery for clients and brokers.
Raven said he looks forward to leading the UK liability team and continuing to develop innovative, tailored solutions for the company’s corporate clients. His leadership comes at a time when insurers are under pressure to refine liability coverage and pricing strategies in response to heightened claims costs and growing litigation risk.
