Everest Reinsurance has appointed Catherine Soyka (pictured above) as assistant vice president for reinsurance underwriting in Oceania, based in Singapore.
Soyka has more than a decade of experience in treaty underwriting across the Asia-Pacific market. She most recently served as class underwriter for property treaty at Chaucer Group in Singapore, a position she held for more than three years after serving as deputy class underwriter from 2019 to 2022.
Before joining Chaucer, she worked as an underwriter for treaty business at AXA XL, following AXA’s acquisition of XL Catlin in 2018. Soyka’s earlier experience includes nearly seven years at XL Catlin in Sydney, where she advanced from assistant underwriter to underwriter for treaty and binder facilities.
She holds a bachelor of business degree from the University of Technology Sydney, with majors in international business and human resource management. She also completed a graduate certificate of insurance and risk management from Deakin University, along with several industry qualifications from ANZIIF, including the NSW Reinsurance Study Course and Certificate IV in General Insurance.
Kevin Bogardus, chief executive of Everest Reinsurance Asia-Pacific, said Soyka’s expertise and knowledge of the region will add value to the company’s reinsurance operations in Oceania.
“Her appointment reflects our commitment to investing in top talent and building a world-class reinsurance franchise,” Bogardus said.
Last month, the global re/insurer also promoted Himanshu Garg to head of new business initiatives for the Asia-Pacific region while he continues as head of India. The expanded role puts Garg in charge of identifying and developing new reinsurance growth opportunities across APAC markets.
This month also saw Jill Beggs promoted to CEO of reinsurance at Everest, stepping up from her previous role as chief operating officer of the division. Beggs now oversees the global reinsurance platform, which spans North America, International, Global Facultative, Global Specialty, and Mt. Logan Capital operations.
Earlier in the year, Everest also appointed Jim Williamson as permanent president and CEO of Everest Group after he served in an interim capacity following Juan Andrade’s departure.
