Pie Insurance, an insurtech company specializing in commercial insurance for small businesses, has announced the launch of its workers’ compensation insurance in Connecticut.
This expansion makes coverage available to more than 365,000 small businesses across the state.
With the addition, Pie now offers workers’ compensation insurance in 39 states and Washington, D.C., serving over 50,000 policyholders nationwide. Connecticut is the latest market in Pie’s national growth, supported by a mix of embedded partnerships, independent agencies and direct online services.
Pie’s offering uses proprietary AI and machine learning pricing technology to provide instant decisions on 73% of class codes, allowing faster quotes and more accurate pricing for businesses often underserved by traditional insurers. The company’s technology also streamlines the quoting and binding process for agents, enhancing service efficiency.
Connecticut’s workers’ compensation market has traditionally presented challenges for small businesses, including limited options and higher premiums due to insurers’ difficulty in assessing risk for diverse business types. Pie’s data-driven approach aims to address these issues, the company said.
“Connecticut’s economy depends on small businesses, which represent more than 99% of all businesses in the state,” said Joh Swigart, co-founder and CEO of Pie Insurance. “At Pie, we believe every business warrants coverage that fits their reality. Whether you’re operating a family restaurant in New Haven or a construction company in Hartford, you deserve insurance that understands your business and prices risk fairly.”
Connecticut’s economy includes sectors such as healthcare, construction, retail, professional services, manufacturing and food service, each with different safety requirements and risk profiles.
The Pie Insurance 2025 Workplace Safety Survey found that 50% of small business injuries are preventable, with average out-of-pocket costs exceeding $10,000 per incident. This highlights potential savings through proper coverage and proactive safety measures.
Pie continues to expand its national network of more than 5,000 appointed agencies. Licensed insurance professionals in Connecticut can now offer tailored workers' compensation solutions through Pie.
