After moving away from commercial insurance during the COVID-19 pandemic, Fallon Health is set to be acquired by Mass General Brigham Inc. in a deal that will combine Fallon with Mass General Brigham Health Plans.

Financial terms were not disclosed. The companies said in a joint statement that more details will be released as the transaction process continues.

The deal follows Fallon’s effort to find a long-term partner aligned with its strategic vision and one that “ensures members continue to receive the care and support they need now and in the years ahead,” Fallon said in the statement.

Mass General Brigham and Fallon said the combined operation will serve consumers across Massachusetts with a focus on Medicare and Medicaid. The companies said the transaction will not result in any member changes, adding that additional details will become available as the process moves forward.

Fallon Health declined to comment beyond the joint statement. An attempt to obtain comment from Mass General Brigham was unsuccessful, according to a Best Wire report.

Fallon Health has been in business for nearly 50 years and says it was the first health plan in Massachusetts to cover Medicaid recipients and the first in the US to offer Medicare Advantage plans. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the insurer shifted away from commercial offerings to focus on government-sponsored plans, which it said at the time accounted for 84% of its revenue.

Meanwhile, on November 5, 2025, the Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey attended the grand opening of the Fallon Health Summit ElderCare PACE Center in Dartmouth. The center officially opened in October, welcoming patients for treatment, and specializes in memory care, chronic illnesses and general health care. The PACE program, which stands for Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly, is covered by Medicare and MassHealth, also known as Medicaid. Fallon Health president and CEO Manny Lopes said at the event, “It’s not just about living longer, it’s about living better.”

Mass General Brigham Health Plans, part of a larger integrated healthcare company, has been operating for more than 35 years and provides health insurance for businesses and offers Medicare Advantage and Medicaid plans.
