Burns & Wilcox has once again been named one of Insurance Business America’s 5-Star Wholesale Brokers and MGAs – a consistent recognition that highlights the company’s impact, innovation, and strong relationships in the excess and surplus (E&S) market.
In a recent interview with Insurance Business TV, Burns & Wilcox president Danny Kaufman expressed his gratitude for the award and emphasized what makes Burns & Wilcox different. “It’s an honor to be awarded once again. On behalf of all our associates, we’re so grateful,” he said.
Kaufman credited the firm’s long-term approach to its continued success. “We’re really the only one at our scale that’s not only privately owned, but also family owned and operated,” he said. “That means we make investments with a multi-decade mindset – not just year to year. We want our people and our partners to thrive for the long run.”
That approach has been particularly vital during what many have called a “Golden Age” for E&S. Kaufman noted that the market has grown from 10% to over 20% of the overall insurance space in just the past decade. “We’re seeing strong growth across personal insurance and small commercial,” he said. “Last year, we grew 30% in personal and 20% in small commercial – and we expect those trends to continue.”
Burns & Wilcox has also leaned into technology, launching a major investment initiative in 2020 to overhaul its digital infrastructure. The company has introduced AI-driven tools to streamline operations and improve market insight. “We’re using AI not to replace people, but to enhance what they do – removing repetitive tasks and giving us better data to serve clients,” Kaufman said.
Looking ahead, Kaufman expects the market to remain unpredictable but believes the importance of strong wholesaler-retail relationships will only grow. “Retail brokers need partners they can rely on,” he said. “We believe Burns & Wilcox is just that partner.”
