Global specialty re/insurance wholesale broker Consilium is expanding into the Caribbean with plans to open a new hub in Kingston, Jamaica, subject to regulatory approval.
The office will be led by Max Pragnell, who was appointed managing partner. Pragnell (pictured above) joins from Kingston-based IIBRe, where he was area vice president with a focus on wholesale and reinsurance property and casualty. He has also held roles at Gallagher and RPS in the US and Alesco in the UK.
The move marks Consilium's second Caribbean office after Cayman and positions the firm among a small group of international brokers with a physical presence in the region. The Kingston hub will focus on wholesale specialty insurance and reinsurance, spanning property, liability, cyber, financial lines, marine and alternative risk transfer.
Consilium said the expansion is part of its strategy to establish wholesale operations in global hubs, using local expertise and its proprietary technology platform AtomX to strengthen broker servicing. AtomX uses AI and automation to speed up processing, improve efficiency and enhance client experience.
The Kingston launch is Consilium’s second new hub in six weeks, following its Singapore office opening. The broker said the moves reflect its goal of reshaping wholesale broking through independence, client service and technology.
The Caribbean is drawing increased interest from international intermediaries as demand grows for specialist cover such as cyber, financial lines and alternative risk transfer. Consilium’s physical presence is expected to broaden options for local insurers and retail brokers while intensifying competition in the wholesale space.
The move follows a broader trend of global wholesale brokers building out regional capabilities. Firms such as Gallagher and Howden have also strengthened their positions in the Caribbean in recent years, drawn by a market that combines strong local players with rising demand for international expertise. Consilium’s entry adds further momentum to this competitive push, particularly as technology-led platforms like AtomX promise to differentiate service delivery in the region.
