Sedgwick plans to expand its handling of large and complex claims through a new Global Specialty platform centered in London, with additional hubs in Asia, the Middle East and the Americas.

The global claims administrator said the platform builds on existing marine and energy capabilities while extending coverage to other technical and special risks. The company characterized the move as a response to shifts in global claims patterns, client demand and macroeconomic factors affecting commerce.

Damian Ely (pictured above) was named chief executive officer of the new platform, with Kevin Hagan serving as chief commercial officer. The platform will be supported by more than 100 loss adjusters joining the company.

Paul White, CEO of international operations at Sedgwick, said the initiative goes beyond expansion. White was confirmed in the role effective Jan. 1, 2026, following the retirement of Tom Simoncic after 18 years with the company.

"This is not just an expansion. It's a strategic transformation with the best in the industry leading the way," White said.

Sedgwick said it will support the offering with training programs and development initiatives aimed at retaining technical expertise while using its global infrastructure. The company also said the platform addresses growing complexity in global claims.

Ely brings more than 35 years of experience across international markets, with a background in operations management and strategic transformation. Hagan has over 16 years of leadership experience, with a background in financial services.

"I am very excited about the huge potential to develop this new platform in the Global Specialty market," Ely said. He added that the company's experts are prepared to respond to incidents ranging from containership casualties in Asia to turbine failures in the Middle East.

Scott Richardson, president of property of Americas at Sedgwick, said the expansion aligns with a cross-border strategy. He noted the effort unites teams and markets to support growth and client service.

David Boghurst will head Global Specialty Marine, with responsibilities that include technical expertise and average adjusting. Hugh Kennaway will lead onshore energy operations, while Gary Mawditt will oversee offshore energy.
