Ryan Specialty Holdings has announced the passing of longtime board director D. Cameron Findlay (pictured above), who died earlier this month.
Findlay had served on the Ryan Specialty board since 2012, including during the company’s pre-IPO period, and had held several key governance roles.
At the time of his passing, Findlay was the chair of the compensation and governance committee, a member of the executive committee, and served as the board’s lead director. He played a central role in shaping the firm’s governance structure and providing oversight as the company transitioned to a publicly traded entity.
“Cam was an outstanding member of the Ryan Specialty board who brought his many decades of experience as a practicing lawyer, time in Washington, and public company general counsel to the great benefit of our firm,” said Patrick G. Ryan, founder and executive chairman of the board. “He will be tremendously missed by everyone at Ryan Specialty.”
Chief executive officer Tim Turner described Findlay as a trusted voice and a strong supporter of the company’s growth. “He was a treasured voice, colleague and friend,” Turner said. “Our thoughts and prayers are particularly with his wife, Amy, and his children, Alex and Mac.”
Findlay’s career spanned both the public and private sectors. From 2013 until his retirement in 2023, he served as senior vice president, general counsel and secretary of Archer Daniels Midland Company. Before that, he held senior legal roles at Medtronic and Aon.
Earlier in his career, he held several government positions, including deputy secretary of labor and deputy assistant to President George H.W. Bush. He also clerked for US Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia and Judge Stephen F. Williams of the US Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit.
Ryan Specialty said it will continue to honor Findlay’s legacy and the impact he made across the organization during more than a decade of board service.
