Reliable Transportation Association (RTA), a managing general agent and Lloyd’s of London coverholder, has launched a new physical damage insurance program for commercial auto clients in the US, expanding its suite of offerings for owner-operators and fleet operators.
The coverage is underwritten by Lloyd’s and administered through STAR Mutual Risk Retention Group (RRG), which RTA manages. It protects commercial vehicles from losses tied to collision, rollover, fire theft, vandalism and weather-related events.
The program is now available through STAR Mutual-appointed agents in six states – California, Illinois, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Texas. Georgia and Florida are expected to follow, with full rollout across STAR Mutual’s footprint planned by the end of 2025.
According to the company, agents can access the product via RTA’s digital platform, which offers automated eligibility checks and quote generation. The platform allows most quotes and binding decisions to be made the same day, with underwriters available for additional support, the company said.
The program targets operations with clean driving records, favorable loss histories, and established safety practices. Its pricing model incorporates safety and operational data, with more experienced operators potentially seeing more favorable rates. The underwriting criteria align with STAR Mutual RRG’s commercial auto liability standards, with modifications tailored for physical damage risks.
There are no financing charges under the program, which RTA says reduces administrative complexity and supports agency workflows.
Agents already appointed with STAR Mutual can begin offering the new coverage without additional onboarding requirements. The program is structured to integrate into existing agency processes, with commission structures in place.
“We’re equipping agents with a truly modern tool to protect what matters most to their clients - their vehicles, their uptime, and their livelihoods,” RTA said in a statement.
RTA is the exclusive distribution and underwriting partner for STAR Mutual RRG, a commercial auto liability insurer licensed in 40 states.
