The MJ Charitable Foundation (MJ Foundation), the nonprofit arm of financial services firm The MJ Companies, announced four new nonprofit partners as its 2025-2027 Charities of Choice.
The selected organizations are Indy Reads in Indiana, Amanda Hope Rainbow Angels in Phoenix, We Don’t Waste in Denver, and UpRise Nashville. Each nonprofit addresses a critical local need, from improving literacy and providing job training to supporting families affected by childhood cancer and reducing food insecurity.
The MJ Foundation said the groups were chosen for their alignment with its four mission cornerstones: overcoming poverty, fostering diversity, advancing education, and embracing humanity. All nominees were put forward and voted on by MJ associates.
“We are so proud to support these organizations that align with the MJ Foundation’s pillars and our mission to be an intentional, active force for good in our communities,” Britini Shrout, executive director of the MJ Foundation, said in the announcement. “We are also thrilled to be expanding our impact in the Nashville market and couldn’t think of a better introduction to the city than through our partnership with UpRise.”
A news release said that this year also marks The MJ Companies’ expansion into Nashville, where UpRise Nashville was selected as the newest local Charity of Choice.
Through the program, each nonprofit will receive media exposure, a $5,000 annual grant over two years, and a dedicated Day(s) of Service with MJ associates. Organizations are also given a toolkit with a media calendar to help amplify awareness of their work.
The MJ Foundation said it emphasizes not only financial support but also hands-on involvement, with associates contributing volunteer hours and resources to the chosen nonprofits throughout the year.
For Indy Reads, which promotes literacy access for marginalized communities, the support arrives at a critical moment.
“We’re incredibly grateful for our partnership with the MJ Foundation,” Indy Reads CEO Ruba Marshood said. “Demand for our growth is urgent while public funding that we have been awarded for nearly a decade has been compromised. We deeply appreciate corporate sponsors like the MJ Foundation who make giving back a core part of their mission, supporting organizations like Indy Reads to serve our communities through all seasons.”
The two-year partnerships are expected to run through 2027.
