Several major US insurance players have announced senior appointments and promotions across brokerage, specialty insurance and life markets.
Trucordia has appointed Jeffrey Lang (pictured, left) as senior vice president and California platform leader.
Lang brings nearly 33 years of insurance experience, most recently serving as president of retail property and casualty at Venbrook Group, where he led national strategy across several sectors.
Lang first joined Venbrook as executive vice president of its retail division, overseeing property and casualty, employee benefits, student insurance and government defense.
Before Venbrook, Lang served as executive vice president and P&C practice leader at USI Insurance Services. Earlier in his career, he led a third-party claims administration operation at ESIS (now part of Chubb), directed global accounts and Western Region healthcare at Chubb, and held leadership roles at several major brokerage firms. He has also served as a lobbyist for the insurance industry and as president of IIABA Los Angeles.
Lang described his approach as client-centric and growth driven.
"The most satisfying part of this work is seeing the team succeed, whether that's a producer landing a new account or saving a tough renewal," he said. "Trucordia is putting real weight behind its platform strategy, and I'm excited to help build out our business in California in a smart, sustainable way. I love building and being a part of successful teams."
Markel, the insurance operations within Markel Group Inc., has appointed James Shankland (pictured, center) as head of ocean cargo, US.
In the newly created role, Shankland will lead the growth of Markel's US cargo portfolio and will be responsible for underwriting strategy, portfolio management and broker management.
Shankland brings extensive marine cargo underwriting leadership experience from major global insurers. Most recently, he served as an underwriting team lead at AIG, where he managed a significant cargo portfolio, led underwriting teams and partnered closely with key broker relationships to drive profitable growth.
"I'm excited to build on Markel's global capabilities and bring a disciplined, long-term approach to the U.S. market," said Shankland. "There is strong demand for consistent underwriting, technical expertise and meaningful capacity, and I look forward to working closely with our brokers and clients to deliver solutions that support their evolving ocean cargo risks."
Great American Insurance Group has promoted Jesse Gutierrez (pictured, right) to divisional president, professional liability, effective April 27, 2026. He will succeed Reina Gregorio, who will retire in July after more than 13 years with the company.
Gutierrez joined Great American Insurance Group in 2013 and has held a series of leadership roles, most recently serving as divisional senior vice president of professional liability.
