Sun Life, Alera Group and Lemonade have each unveiled key executive appointments aimed at accelerating growth, strengthening financial operations and advancing strategic transformation.

Sun Life names president of Sun Life Asset Management

Tom Murphy (pictured) has been appointed as president of Sun Life Asset Management, effective January 1, 2026.

The move is part of the company's broader strategy to align and expand its global asset management businesses, including MFS, SLC Management, Aditya Birla Sun Life Asset Management and its pension risk transfer unit.

Under the new structure, Sun Life Asset Management will oversee more than CA$1.54 trillion in assets and consolidate over CA$1.4 billion in 2024 earnings. The reorganization aims to strengthen collaboration between the firm's asset management and insurance operations, creating new opportunities for product development, capital growth and client-focused innovation.

Murphy, who currently serves as Sun Life's chief risk officer, brings over 25 years of global asset management experience. His focus will be on expanding Sun Life's investment offerings and leveraging the company's balance sheet to support long-term revenue growth and scale.

Alera Group appoints finance chief

Alera Group, one of the largest independent insurance and financial services firms in the US, has announced that Mark Hammond will join as chief financial officer on November 17, 2025.

Hammond will oversee accounting, financial planning, treasury, tax, capital allocation, and M&A integration.

With more than four decades in financial leadership roles at AssuredPartners, Chubb, Aviva, Orion Auto, and Deloitte, Hammond’s experience is expected to support Alera’s ongoing expansion. His appointment comes as the firm continues to scale its operations and pursue further growth across the insurance distribution and benefits consulting markets.

Lemonade adds PayPal CMO to board

Digital insurer Lemonade has announced the appointment of Geoff Seeley, chief marketing officer at PayPal, to its board of directors.

Seeley brings three decades of experience in marketing, brand development and digital transformation, having previously held senior roles at Afterpay, Airbnd, Unilever and Pearson.

Lemonade, known for its technology-driven and AI-powered approach to insurance, is seeking to strengthen its brand and marketing capabilities as it expands globally. Seeley's expertise in consumer engagement and marketing analytics is expected to bolster the company's competitive positioning in the increasingly digital insurance landscape.
