Harford Mutual Insurance Group (HMIG) and MIB Group have announced updates to their respective boards of directors, including new appointments, re-elections and retirements.
At Harford Mutual, board changes were approved during the annual meeting of policyholders and took effect on May 21, 2025.
John J. DeMartini, Sean M. Garber and Teresa Q. McTague were re-elected to serve additional terms. DeMartini and Garber first joined the board in 2023, while McTague has served since 2021.
The board also welcomed a new member, Theodore M. Alexander III. Alexander, who has nearly 40 years of experience in the investment industry, and currently serves as head of global integrated equity at T. Rowe Price.
In connection with this, four directors, including Atwood Collins III, Albert J. Mezzanotte Jr., Spencer M. Roman and Stephen T. Scott, have retired from the board. Scott previously served as board chair from 2013 to 2019.
MIB Group and MIB Group Holdings confirmed board leadership appointments and director elections for the 2025-2026 term following a May 16 board meeting.
Bruce Parker, president of Global Life at Pan-American Life Insurance Group, has been named board chair, succeeding Sarah J. VanBeck, senior vice president and corporate controller at Athene. VanBeck will remain on the board as immediate past chair. Meanwhile, Bruce K. Baude, former chief operations and technology officer at CNO Financial Group, was elected to serve as vice-chair.
Matthew Berman, president and CEO of Foresters Financial; Peter Maynard, chief data and AI officer at Guardian Life, and Christopher Zimmerman, senior vice president and general counsel at National Life Group, have each been elected to three-year terms as new members of the board.
Meanwhile, Karen Phelan, vice president of Underwriting Strategy and Innovation at PartnerRe North America Life, and Monica Suryapranata, managing director and controller for Retail and Institutional Annuities at New York Life Insurance Company, were re-elected to three-year terms.
David Chadwick, executive vice president and chief underwriter of Life Operations at Primerica Life; Dean Del Vecchio, executive vice president and chief technology and innovation officer at PPL Corporation; Michael C. S. Fosbury, former president and CEO of Columbian Financial Group; and Gina Guzman, vice president and chief medical director at Munich Re, U.S. (Life), were re-elected to one-year terms.
Mary J. Bahna-Nolan, senior director for North American ICT at WTW, and Brian Winikoff, president and CEO of MIB, will continue to serve on the board.
Parker, who joined MIB’s board in May 2023, leads the Global Life business for Pan-American Life Insurance Group across Latin America, the Caribbean, and the US. He also oversees several of the company’s affiliated entities. Baude, a board member since 2019, has held senior operational and technology roles at CNO Financial Group, Univita Health, LTCG, and TSYS.
