Insurance and risk management firms are making a series of senior leadership appointments across key business segments.

Canopius strengthens US financial lines division

Canopius Group has appointed John Tiesi (pictured, left) as US head of financial lines, effective Oct. 29, 2025. Based in the US, Tiesi brings over 25 years of experience in financial and professional liability underwriting, with a focus on middle-market financial and commercial clients.

He joins from Marsh, where he spent nearly 16 years in senior roles, most recently as QSG FINPRO National Practice Leader, and previously held underwriting positions at Zurich North America.

In his new role, Tiesi will oversee Canopius’ financial lines portfolio, guide underwriting strategy, expand product capabilities, and reinforce client-focused solutions. Lisa Davis, US CEO of Canopius, said his appointment supports the company’s continued expansion in the US financial lines market, a key driver of its growth strategy.

FM appoints new CFO

Commercial property insurer FM has named Alison Erbig (pictured, center) as executive vice president and chief financial officer, effective Nov. 1, 2025. She succeeds Kevin Ingram, who will retire at the end of the year after 35 years with the company.

Erbig will oversee all finance functions, including reporting, tax, planning, treasury, and risk management. She joins from Liberty Mutual Insurance, where she served as CFO for Global Risk Solutions and previously held roles as comptroller and director of investor relations.

FM chairman and CEO Malcolm Roberts said Erbig’s financial acumen and strategic leadership will reinforce the company’s focus on resilience, stability, and sustainable performance.

Alliant expands employee benefits team in the Midwest

Alliant Insurance Services has appointed John Lapinsi (pictured, right) as senior vice president in its employee benefits group, bolstering its regional leadership across Michigan and the wider Midwest.

Lapinski has more than 35 years of experience in employee benefits consulting, with expertise in plan design, compliance, cost management, and employee engagement. His work will focus on supporting mid-market and large organisations with tailored benefits strategies.

Ameritas announced leadership promotions and new hires

Ameritas has announced several leadership changes across its operations to advance its goals in talent development, strategic planning and actuarial excellence.

Scott Ballenger has been promoted to second vice president of talent development, after serving as director of HR business partners. 

Sherri Fowler joins as second vice president of customer service, retirement plans, bringing accounting experience and FINRA Series 6 certification. Meanwhile, Bob MacDonald has been named vice president of strategic planning, executive, joining from Mutual of Omaha, while Kyle O'Donnell takes on the role of vice president of actuarial, individual, leveraging his background as a fellow of the Society of Actuaries.
