Ranchers, landowners and agricultural businesses across Texas and the broader Southwest now have access to expanded insurance offerings through a new partnership between Cattle Raisers Insurance and Higginbotham Insurance and Financial Services.
The move extends Cattle Raisers Insurance's footprint beyond its traditional service areas of Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico, allowing it to write policies nationwide for the first time.
The agreement also delivers a consolidated solution for ranch, property, and liability coverage, while also offering employee health benefits through Higginbotham, the largest independent insurance broker in Texas. The partnership positions the firms to provide a broader suite of commercial, personal, and employee benefit products, while both companies will continue to operate independently.
Rusty Reid, chairman and CEO of Higginbotham, said the collaboration builds on the shared Texas roots of both organizations while giving agricultural clients access to national resources and expertise. He noted that the partnership combines localized relationships with broader capabilities that extend beyond traditional insurance products.
For policyholders, the expansion means access to services such as Higginbotham’s Employee Response Center, which helps individuals navigate carriers, understand plan details, and locate in-network medical providers. Clients will also receive annual risk reviews and educational support designed to strengthen ranching operations and mitigate exposures.
Carl Ray Polk Jr., chairman of Cattle Raisers Insurance, said the arrangement increases buying power for the agricultural industry, which often struggles to secure competitive insurance rates.
The agricultural sector has historically faced challenges in securing comprehensive and affordable insurance. Many ranchers and agribusinesses rely on fragmented policies from multiple carriers to protect property, equipment, employees, and livestock. Partnerships such as this aim to simplify coverage and reduce gaps, particularly as weather volatility, rising input costs, and workforce pressures heighten risk exposures.
The announcement also built on an earlier collaboration introduced this year that provided Texas & Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association members with exclusive discounts. Members currently receive 10% off Travelers property insurance, with additional discounts expected in the future.
With agriculture representing both a critical industry and one of the more complex insurance markets, the new partnership signals a growing trend toward integrated solutions that combine specialized knowledge with broader underwriting capacity.
