Canopius Group has appointed Lisa Leftwich as US regional head of strategy and transformation, effective October 20, as part of its effort to accelerate growth and strengthen its market presence in the US.

Leftwich joins the global specialty and P&C re/insurer with more than 20 years of experience in corporate strategy, communications, and sustainability. She previously served in a series of senior leadership roles at Zurich North America, most recently as head of sustainability services at Zurich Resilience Solutions. Her previous posts include director of value proposition development, chief of staff for North America Commercial Insurance, and director of communications services.

In her new role, Leftwich will lead strategic and operational initiatives aimed at driving business transformation across Canopius’ US operations. She will work closely with underwriting, distribution, and operations teams to foster collaboration, enhance execution, and position Canopius for sustained growth.

The appointment underscores Canopius’ strategy to build a more client-focused business in the US. The company has been expanding its footprint in key specialty lines, including property, casualty, marine, and financial institutions, as it looks to increase its relevance in one of the world’s largest and most competitive insurance markets.

Canopius’ US CEO, Lisa Davis, said Leftwich’s appointment represents a key investment in leadership to guide the company through its next phase of transformation. Davis noted that Leftwich’s background in strategy and sustainability will be instrumental as the company sharpens its focus on innovation, efficiency, and long-term value creation.

The move comes as many global insurers are re-evaluating their US operations amid shifting underwriting conditions, heightened competition, and the growing importance of technology and ESG-focused initiatives. Canopius’ decision to strengthen its strategic leadership highlights its intent to navigate these changes proactively and build scale in the US specialty segment.
