AXA XL has expanded its energy underwriting team in the Americas with the appointment of Eric Judd (pictured above) as executive underwriter in New York.

Judd joins AXA XL with more than 30 years of experience in the insurance and energy sectors. His background includes senior underwriting positions at Zurich North America, Liberty International Underwriters, and Starr Insurance, as well as brokerage experience with Aon. He began his career as a field engineer with IRI.

Katherine Gerber, AXA XL’s head of energy transition, said, “Our capabilities and commitment to helping clients address energy risks has been well received, and having Eric onboard only strengthens our ability in helping clients navigate through complex risks.”

“As part of a team that supports companies in addressing their multiline insurance needs, Eric’s expertise highlights AXA XL’s commitment to delivering innovative solutions tailored to not only our energy clients’ evolving insurance demands but other clients looking to address their need in developing affordable energy resources,” said Maria Duhart, AXA XL East Zone leader.

In January, AXA XL also named Katherine Gerber as head of energy transition in the Americas. Gerber is tasked with guiding clients through the challenges of energy transition and sustainability, as well as developing underwriting strategies and new products for the region. Her appointment is part of AXA XL’s broader effort to support clients as they adapt to changing energy markets and regulatory environments.

The company’s leadership changes in 2025 also include the appointment of Jon Tellekamp as chief underwriting officer for construction and energy. Tellekamp is responsible for overseeing underwriting strategy and supervising the development of innovative products and services across these sectors.

Additionally, Robert Malone was named head of large accounts and portfolio management for AXA XL’s cyber insurance team in the Americas, focusing on strategy and portfolio performance.
