AM Best has upgraded the Financial Strength Rating (FSR) of MS Transverse Insurance Group from A (Excellent) to A+ (Superior), bringing it in line with the rating of its parent company, Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Co.

The rating agency cited MS Transverse’s strategic role within the Mitsui Sumitomo group and the oversight and support provided by its parent company, MS&AD Insurance Group Holdings, Inc. The upgrade follows MS Transverse’s acquisition by Mitsui Sumitomo, completed in January 2023.

MS Transverse ended 2024 as the largest hybrid fronting insurer in the US by gross written premiums. The company was also recognized at the 2025 Program Manager Awards, receiving the Fronting Carrier of the Year title for the third time in four years.

“This rating upgrade is a significant milestone and a testament to the strength of our business model, the quality of our partnerships and our disciplined approach to risk management,” Dave Paulsson (pictured above), CEO of MS Transverse, said.

“The upgrade reflects the strategic importance of MS Transverse to the group’s strategy, and we remain committed to delivering long-term value to our MGA partners, reinsurers and policyholders.”

Hiro Morimoto, senior executive officer of Mitsui Sumitomo and chairman and CEO of MSIG Holdings (USA) Inc., added: “MS Transverse has become a key part of our global strategy, serving as a dynamic platform for growth in the MGA and fronting insurance market.”

MS Transverse operates as a hybrid fronting carrier, supporting a portfolio of program business across various property and casualty lines. The company provides fronting services while leveraging underwriting capabilities in collaboration with managing general agents and reinsurance partners.
