Lemonade has rolled out its car insurance product in Indiana, adding another state to its growing US footprint.

The move allows Indiana drivers to access the company’s full lineup of insurance offerings, including auto, renters’, homeowners’, pet and life policies.

The expansion comes as digital auto insurance continues to grow nationwide. While traditional insurers still dominate the market, digital-first players like Lemonade are gaining ground by offering app-based services, usage-based pricing and streamlined claims processes. These features have proven popular with younger drivers and those seeking faster, more tech-driven experiences.

A logical market for expansion

Indiana marks the latest in a series of planned rollouts for Lemonade Car in 2025. The company recently launched in Colorado and now offers auto insurance in states representing about 42% of the national car insurance market.

Indiana drivers are estimated to spend $5 billion annually on car insurance. Lemonade noted that its existing customer base in the state already generates hundreds of millions in annual premiums, making it a logical market for expansion.

The first quarter of 2025 was the first quarter where Lemonade’s car insurance business led the company’s sequential in-force premium growth, surpassing other lines of business. The company has positioned its auto product as a central part of its long-term strategy.

“Car insurance hasn’t kept up with how people actually drive today,” said Daniel Schreiber, co-founder and CEO of Lemonade. “With Lemonade Car, we’re using tech to change that – making coverage fairer, simpler and smarter. Expanding into Indiana is both a strategic milestone and a natural next step for us. With our full suite of products now available in the state, we can offer bundled pricing and smart insurance tailored for tech-savvy Hoosiers.”

Lemonade said it has also released new materials for Indiana drivers, including a guide to state insurance requirements and a research report on how Gen Z is reshaping driving habits.
