As Halloween festivities approach, Allstate has identified the 10 riskiest roads in the United States, warning drivers to stay alert as the holiday coincides with some of the most hazardous driving hours of the week.

According to new data from Allstate’s Drivewise® program, aggressive driving behavior - including speeding and hard braking - peaks on weekends between 11am and 5 pm. With Halloween falling on a Friday this year, experts caution that overlapping celebrations and heavy traffic could make certain highways especially dangerous.

“Halloween weekend brings out costumes, candy and, unfortunately, some risky driving behavior,” said Brian Tidwell, an Allstate safety expert.

Allstate’s analysis of driving data across the 50 most populous US cities identified 10 road segments where these behaviors were most common. Topping the list is Interstate 8 East in San Diego (Exit 7 to I-15 North), followed by State Route 166 East in Atlanta (Exit to Lakewood Avenue) and State Highway 3 South in Oklahoma City (Exit to I-44 East).

Other high-risk locations include:

  • I-240 East in Memphis (Exit 12A to Summer Avenue)
  • I-376 West in Pittsburgh (Exit 74 to Beechwood Boulevard)
  • I-17 North in Phoenix (Exit 223B to SR-74 West)
  • I-95 North in Baltimore (Exit 59 to MD-150)
  • I-11 North/US-95 North in Las Vegas (Exit 82A to Lake Mead Boulevard East)
  • I-94 East in Detroit (Exit 219 to Gratiot Avenue)
  • I-10 East in San Antonio (Exit 578 to Pecan Valley Drive)

Each segment lies along heavily trafficked interstates or state highways, often near complex interchanges where sudden stops and merges are common.

The insurer also highlighted Halloween-specific safety reminders, urging drivers to slow down in “trick-or-treat” zones, avoid distractions, and maintain visibility. “Defensive driving helps you react to sudden stops and unexpected traffic patterns,” the company advised.
