Brunel PI Brokers launches specialist tech brokerage

Brunel PI Brokers, part of the Brunel Group, has launched BrunelTech, a specialist insurance broker. The new division is designed to meet the needs of high-growth and high-change businesses across areas such as artificial intelligence, Medtech, platforms, publishing and fintech.

BrunelTech will be led by technology insurance specialist Joe Newbury and his team, who bring decades of combined experience in advising and placing cover for companies in the sector. The business aims to address the unique risk exposures faced by technology firms, from cyber threats and data breaches to intellectual property disputes, reputational harm and operational disruption.

The broker's offering includes products such as cyber and data insurance, crime and fraud cover, intellectual property protection, professional indemnity, directors' and officers' insurance and general liability. Policies are designed to be flexible, tailored to a firm's budget, growth trajectory and risk profile.

The move comes as Brunel PI Brokers shifts to carve out a unit dedicated to technology risks, having already built a client base that includes fintech firms, startups and managed service providers and high-growth businesses. The group said this move will allow it to provide deeper expertise and more focused risk management advice in a sector that has often been underserved by generalist brokers.

According to Brunel Group, the launch positions the business to expand further in specialist markets such as fintech, medtech, gaming and e-sports, where demand for tailored cover is rising in line with rapid innovation. Newbury and his team emphasised that their approach goes beyond simply offering insurance products, aiming instead to deliver comprehensive risk management strategies that align with clients’ intellectual property, technology assets and investor requirements.

With the formation of BrunelTech, Brunel Group is reinforcing its broader growth strategy while also responding to increasing client demand for specialist advice in an industry where exposures can escalate quickly.
