Insurance company appoints new head of property & energy insurance

Sompo International has recently announced the appointment of Angela Weiss as the head of property and energy insurance for Continental Europe.

The Bermuda-based holding company stated that the move was in line with expanding their reach in Continental Europe.

“We’re continuously investing in our property and energy offering for Continental Europe where we see a growing demand for market leading expertise and capacity,” said Ralph Brand, president, Continental Europe Insurance.

“Angela’s in-depth industry knowledge and broad experience, combined with her extensive network within the insurance community, make her the ideal person to lead our ambitions in this important field and build a strong team across Continental Europe.”

Weiss previously served Zurich Insurance as head of underwriting property, engineering lines and marine for Switzerland and international Austrian business.

She has also held leadership and underwriting roles in property, energy, engineering lines, marine and risk engineering at several firms such as Zurich Germany, AXA, and FM Insurance.

With the appointment coming into effect on Sept. 1, Weiss will be based in Zurich and is set to report to Brand.
