QuestGates-owned QGLaw has acquired the business of Miles Fanning Legal, a London-based specialist law firm, in a move that further extends the group's end-to-end claims and legal offering.
The deal marks the group's first acquisition of 2026. The company has signalled that further transactions are planned as it continues to build scale and capability across the UK and Ireland.
The acquisition comes against a backdrop of continuing consolidation among UK loss adjusters, claims specialists and legal service providers. Market participants have increasingly sought partners that can offer bundled services – investigation, technical adjusting, legal advice and litigation support – particularly for complex specialty lines where claim costs and litigation risks have been rising.
The addition of Miles Fanning Legal supports a push into “legally enhanced” services, where legal capability is embedded alongside traditional claims handling and loss adjusting. That model aims to create a single touchpoint on disputed, high‑value or technically complex matters, potentially shortening lifecycles, improving recoveries and supporting better management of defence costs.
There is also a focus on travel, tourism and marine. These sectors have seen a steady flow of disputes involving package travel regulations, accidents abroad, illness claims, cruise and marine incidents, as well as issues arising from changing travel patterns and heightened consumer expectations since the pandemic.
Chris Hall, group executive chairman of QuestGates, said the acquisition would strengthen the group’s legally enhanced services and support its growth ambitions.
"As we look further ahead into 2026 and beyond, we are excited to continue investing in and strengthening our rapidly growing QGLaw team, while delivering additional value and support to our clients," Hall said.
Meanwhile, Jason Spencer, managing director of QGLaw, said the Miles Fanning team adds depth in key specialist sectors. He highlighted the firm’s reputation within the travel, tourism and marine markets and said its client base and service offering were closely aligned with QGLaw’s own, broadening the range of services that could be provided both through the legal practice and the wider QuestGates group.
The acquisition also underlines a wider trend towards integrated, specialist support on complex claims. In areas such as travel and marine, where claims often involve multiple jurisdictions, specialist regulation and potentially high damages, the combination of adjusting, investigation and legal expertise has become an increasingly common feature of the UK and London Market landscape.
The transaction also reflects continuing demand for sector‑specific legal capability, as carriers look to manage inflationary pressures on claims, navigate evolving regulations affecting travel and tourism, and respond to a more litigious environment in some territories. It is another example of how claims, adjusting and legal providers are repositioning to offer broader, vertically integrated services across the UK and Ireland.
