JMG Group has strengthened its footprint across England and Scotland with the addition of three established regional brokers, enhancing its expertise in commercial insurance and expanding into new geographies.

The Yorkshire-based broker has welcomed Boston Insurance Brokers in Solihull; Hayton Insurance Brokers in Kendal, and Gateway Insurance Services in Edinburgh. Each business brings a strong local reputation and specialist knowledge, further diversifying JMG's offering.

Boston Insurance Brokers, founded in 1994 by Gerry Boston and now led by his son Rob, joins with six experienced colleagues. The firm has long-standing ties with the UK construction industry and general commercial clients, adding sector-specific expertise while maintaining its independent approach.

In the Lake District, JM Glendinning Insurance Brokers North West, part of JMG, has acquired Hayton Insurance Brokers. Founder Neil Hayton, who has almost three decades of experience, will continue to lead the business. JMG is also investing in a new Kendal office to support growth and future recruitment.

Meanwhile, in Scotland, JMG’s subsidiary GS Group has taken on Gateway Insurance Services, founded in 2015 by managing director Gareth McCallum. The move establishes GS Group’s first base in Edinburgh, complementing Gateway’s existing offices in Glasgow and Fife and extending its reach across SME and personal lines clients, particularly in hospitality and construction.

JMG Group CEO Nick Houghton said the businesses will continue to operate under their current leadership while benefiting from the resources of a larger organisation.

"They will continue under their existing leadership and retain their regional identities, ensuring business continuity for clients, while benefiting from our enhanced trading capabilities, market access and investment that comes with being part of a larger group," Houghton said.

In September, the company also completed three acquisitions. The addition of Allsop Commercial Services, Highhouse Insurance Services, and Insursec Risk Management brought decades of broking experience, strong client relationships and specialist expertise to the company.

JMG’s acquisitions reflect an ongoing trend of consolidation in the UK broking sector, where scale and market access are increasingly seen as critical to competing with larger players and responding to evolving client needs.

Smaller brokers often seek the backing of larger groups to gain access to wider insurer panels, digital investment, and regulatory support, while retaining their local identity and client relationships.
