Amiga Specialty has appointed James Rasmussen (pictured above) as managing director, management liability UK & Europe, with immediate effect. Rasmussen will be based in London and report to group managing director and founder, Adam Kembrooke.
In this newly created role, Rasmussen is tasked with establishing the management liability product line, defining its strategic direction, and collaborating with Amiga’s capacity partners to deliver services and products to brokers.
The appointment is part of Amiga Specialty’s ongoing expansion, following its launch in May with support from investor B.P. Marsh.
“James brings a wealth of experience and technical knowledge in the Management Liability space where he has repeated success in building high-performing teams,” Kembrooke said.
He noted that Rasmussen’s market reputation and track record in developing profitable portfolios, as well as his partnerships with providers and brokers, will be important for the company’s growth and for adding value to carrier partners.
Rasmussen was previously managing director of management liability at Nexus Underwriting. He also founded the financial lines MGA Plus Risk in 2017. Earlier in his career, Rasmussen held senior underwriting and leadership positions at Chubb, Travelers, Marsh, and Willis, having started his insurance career in 1998.
“I’m delighted to be joining Amiga and look forward to using my experience to shape disciplined, forward-thinking growth and help establish Amiga as a trusted and respected market partner,” Rasmussen said of his appointment.
The company has made several key hires since its inception to develop its financial lines and transactional risks offerings in both the UK and Hong Kong.
B.P. Marsh, which financially backs Amiga Specialty, has also recently acquired a 35% stake in Salus, a newly launched UK insurance intermediary group specialising in professional indemnity (PI) cover.
The investment, valued at up to £2 million through a mix of equity and loan facility, is part of B.P. Marsh’s strategy to strengthen its position in specialist intermediaries within the insurance market.
