Nexus Underwriting has expanded its trade credit operations into Italy, in a move aimed at broadening its European presence and strengthening its position in one of Lloyd’s largest continental markets.

The London-based managing general agent (MGA), part of the Brown & Brown group, said the development supports its strategy to grow and enhance access to specialist insurance products across Europe.

The new operation in Italy will be overseen by Roberto Calabretti, CEO and country manager for Nexus in Italy, who is working with the trade credit team to introduce Nexus’s existing product portfolio alongside new solutions tailored for the local market.

“Launching our trade credit operations in Italy represents an exciting landmark moment for Nexus,” Calabretti said. “As the only Lloyd’s coverholder for trade credit in the country, we reinforce the strength of our proposition across financial lines, legal protection and cyber insurance – within Lloyd’s second-largest European market. This marks an important step in Nexus’s wider European expansion, positioning us strongly against competitors as we continue to grow, with trade credit as our first new product line introduced in Italy and further classes to follow.”

To support the launch, Federica Paudice will join the firm in mid-October as broker and partner manager in Milan. She previously worked at Aon Italy, where she managed business development and client relationships, including with several multinational companies.

“With 25 years of experience, nearly 50 dedicated trade credit specialists across Europe, and support for more than 1,000 clients, we are one of the most established and trusted MGAs in the sector,” said Samuel Fattahzadeh, head of Europe – Nexus Trade Credit.

“Opening in Milan underlines our commitment to serving major European markets.”

Nexus UK, Europe and international CEO Richard Marriage said the Italian expansion reflects the company’s continued growth. “The expansion of our trade credit operations into Italy is another milestone in Nexus’s growth journey. We are delighted to welcome Federica to the business to bring our Italian vision to life,” he said.

Nexus employs more than 320 people in nine countries, including the UK, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, the United States, the UAE, and Malaysia.
