Liberty Specialty Markets (LSM) has made three new appointments to its energy division, strengthening its underwriting capabilities in the power and renewables sector.
Alex Nelson (pictured above, left) has joined as underwriting manager for power and renewables, while Andrea Ciraci (pictured above, middle) and Oliver Prout (pictured above, right) take on senior underwriter roles. The three bring over 30 years of combined experience in underwriting lead business.
All three will report to James Boyle, head of energy at LSM. The company confirmed that the hires are aimed at expanding its existing power and renewables portfolio and complementing its established oil and gas offering.
Prout has seven years of London market experience, specialising in renewable energy contracts, and most recently worked at Chaucer.
“Alex, Andrea, and Oliver bring strong sector expertise that will be key to further growing our power and renewables offering in response to rising demand. As a mutual, we take a long-term view of risk, allowing us to sustainably partner with our clients through various market cycles,” Boyle said.
LSM has been expanding its renewable energy footprint since it established a dedicated team in 2017, combining underwriting, risk engineering and claims expertise into a unified global proposition. This approach allows the business to assess project risks for onshore wind, solar and battery storage projects. The team operates not only in London but also in Paris, Madrid and Dubai.
Outside the renewables unit, LSM recently appointed Humberto Pozo as head of distribution for Latin America and the US, effective January 2025. Pozo has been tasked with strengthening broker and client relationships in these regions and aligning distribution strategy with Liberty’s global network.
In Europe, Pierre-Édouard Fraigneau was named president for the region, effective September 2025. His role focuses on overseeing LSM’s European operations, driving business development and ensuring that underwriting capabilities meet the demands of a growing client base.
