Jensten Underwriting has announced the appointment of Kathleen (Kat) Durling (pictured) as director of underwriting as it continues on its five-year plan for expansion.

Durling, an experienced figure in the insurance industry with over 15 years behind her, previously held a leadership role at Simply Business. Her career has included positions at Victor Insurance, CGI, MS Amlin, and Chaucer. She is recognised for her skills in underwriting, as well as creating new products and making decisions based on data.

In her new position, Durling will lead two key areas: she will guide efforts to expand specialised insurance offerings and develop a product plan specifically for the United Kingdom’s insurance brokerage market.

Jamie Lewis, managing director of Jensten Underwriting, expressed enthusiasm about Durling’s arrival. “We are thrilled to welcome Kat to Jensten Underwriting,” Lewis said. “Her appointment is a game-changer for our team, bringing unparalleled expertise in product innovation and development. Kat’s vision and leadership will accelerate our mission to create an MGA that brokers choose for our extensive product range and specialist underwriting expertise, ensuring we continue to deliver exceptional value to our partners and their clients.”

Durling also shared her excitement about joining the firm. “I’m delighted to join Jensten Underwriting at such a pivotal moment in its growth journey,” she stated. “The company’s commitment to innovation and its broker-focused approach aligns perfectly with my desire for creating tailored underwriting solutions. I am excited to start working with the team and our brokers to expand and evolve our specialist products that meet the evolving needs of brokers and their clients.”

Jensten Underwriting, which is part of the larger Jensten Group, believes Durling’s leadership will help improve its reputation and extend its reach across the UK insurance brokerage market, both through online platforms and through its skilled underwriters.

Established in 2022, Jensten Underwriting operates as a managing general agent. The Jensten Group, its parent company, has more than 800 employees across 35 locations in the UK and manages over £500 million in gross written insurance premiums.
