Insurance moves: Nexus, Fidelis, Allianz SE and Markerstudy

A series of senior leadership moves have been announced across the insurance and reinsurance market, spanning legal, underwriting and finance board-level roles. 

Nexus hires Walid Youssef to lead UK financial institutions

Nexus Underwriting has appointed Walid Youssef (pictured, left) as unit head of UK financial institutions. 

Youssef joins from Lockton, where he was senior vice president within the global financial institutions team. His earlier roles include head of financial institutions at Travelers Europe and vice president at Marsh.

The appointment follows three recent hires in the same division. Sam Meehan serves as head of underwriting development, based in Dublin, and has more than 15 years’ experience in insurance, including financial institutions underwriting roles at Travelers Europe and Chubb. Scott Walker has joined as senior underwriter with 25 years’ experience in financial institutions insurance, most recently at Aviva and Aon. Harry Risby joined the financial institutions team as an underwriter in February 2026, bringing eight years’ underwriting experience from CNA Hardy, Antares and Compass Underwriting.

Fidelis names group general counsel

Fidelis Insurance Holdings Limited has promoted Nicole Kapu-Leyland (pictured, centre) to group general counsel. 

Kapu-Leyland joined Fidelis Insurance in 2023 and has held several key roles, including interim group head of legal, deputy general counsel and senior legal counsel. Before joining Fidelis, she was an associate in the corporate and financial services team at Willkie Farr & Gallagher (UK) LLP. 

Allianz SE reshapes board responsibilities ahead of succession

Allianz SE's supervisory board has announced changes to the board of management, effective Jan. 1, 2027, in connectioon with the planned retirement of board member Klaus-Peter Röhler at the end of 2026.

Röhler will step down from the board on Dec. 31, 2026, upon the expiry of his mandate and reaching the age limit.

Tomas Kunzmann (pictured, right), currently CEO of Allianz Partners, will join the Allianz SE board of management and assume responsibility for Asia Pacific, including India. A successor as CEO of Allianz Partners will be announced in due course.

Renate Wagner, member of the board of management of Allianz SE, will take responsibility for Germany, Switzerland and Central Europe, while continuing to oversee the people & culture and mergers & acquisitions portfolios. She will transition her current Asia‑Pacific responsibilities to Kunzmann.

Meanwhile, the mandate of Claire-Marie Coste-Lepoutre as chief financial officer and member of the board of management has been extended by five years to Dec. 31, 2031.

Markerstudy appoints group CFO

Markerstudy has named Glen Ward as group chief financial officer, subject to regulatory approval. Ward brings extensive financial services experience, including roles at Admiral Insurance as group finance director and UK insurance CFO.

Markerstudy said Ward will initially focus on engaging with colleagues in the finance function, understanding the business and its strategic priorities, building relationships with key stakeholders and identifying opportunities to support sustainable growth.
