Two major UK insurance groups have announced key leadership changes aimed at driving growth, sustainability and market impact.

The appointments highlight the sector's increasing focus on ESG integration, resilience and strategic alignment across commercial and intermediary operations. These moves are expected to influence both client offerings and broader industry practices in insurance and risk management.

Howden appoints chief global impact officer

Howden has created the role of chief global impact officer, appointing Nick Stace to lead the company's sustainability, resilience and social impact strategy. Stace joins from Barclays Bank, where he oversaw social purpose and sustainable finance initiatives in the UK.

He also brings extensive experience from leadership roles at The King’s Trust, Saga Travel, and advisory positions including the Financial Conduct Authority. Stace will report to CEO David Howden CBE and assumes the position in January 2026.

The appointment coincides with the departure of Rowan Douglas, who led Howden’s climate risk and resilience initiatives.

Douglas will remain an advisor, ensuring continuity as the company further embeds ESG considerations into its insurance offerings, including initiatives like Humanity Insured and the Howden Foundation.

Earlier this month, the global brokerage also created a dedicated space insurance capability as it targets further growth in the global space market.

Bspoke Group strengthens commercial leadership

Bspoke Group has also announced two senior appointments to support its next growth phase.

Nick Grazier (pictured above, left) was appointed group sales and marketing director, consolidating the company's sales and marketing functions to better align strategy and commercial outcomes.

Meanwhile, Wayne Tonge (pictured above, right) will assume the role of group commercial managing director in addition to his current responsibilities, overseeing the commercial division, including SME, sports & leisure, property owners and fee protection.

Both appointees will report to CEO Ryan Gill and are subject to regulatory approval.
