Senior leadership announcements at various insurance firms are set to reshape key underwriting, distribution and operational roles across the insurance and risk sector.
The latest rounds of appointments spans country and business unit heads, strategic advisory positions and people leadership.
The Ardonagh Group has appointed former Marsh UK chief executive Chris Lay (pictured, left) as operating partner at Ardonagh Capital Partners. In the new role, he will join the Ardonagh Group executive team and work on group strategy across the portfolio.
Lay has 40 years’ experience in the insurance industry, spending most of his career at Marsh, where he served as CEO of Marsh UK from 2018 and later Marsh McLennan UK, and has held senior roles in the UK, EMEA and North America. He currently chairs the London Market Group and Insurance United Against Dementia and is a non‑executive director of Convex Group.
“Over the past nine years Ardonagh has built a formidable portfolio on the international stage, with talented teams, strong businesses, and an entrepreneurial culture. I’m very much looking forward to working on the Group strategy and helping support the next phase of its development," Lay said.
Xceedance has appointed Swapna Allapur (pictured, centre) as chief people officer, with a global mandate to align talent strategy with the company’s push to help insurers embed artificial intelligence across underwriting, claims and policy administration.
Allapur brings almost three decades of HR leadership experience and joins from Everest Group, where she spent four years as chief people officer. She had previously held senior roles at Deloitte, Sun Life Financial and other global organisations, leading large‑scale talent and transformation programmes.
“As AI becomes embedded into day-to-day operations, the role of people will evolve, not diminish. I look forward to working with Xceedance’s global teams to strengthen the capabilities, culture, and governance frameworks required to deliver AI-enabled services responsibly and at scale," Allapur said.
HDI Global has appointed Philip Beblo (pictured, right) as head of property underwriting, effective May 1. He will take overall responsibility for the corporate and specialty insurer’s worldwide property local risk portfolio, with a mandate to further develop and internationally expand the book.
Beblo joins from Everest Insurance, where he was deputy manager international property, and previously served as global practice group leader property at Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty. In those roles he supported the profitable growth of international property portfolios and strengthened underwriting capabilities across regions.
In his new position he will work closely with Mark Mackay, global head of energy & power, and Franz Adamczyk, head of global risk property, focusing on underwriting excellence, governance and global standards to support sustainable growth.
Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has promoted Jessica Kirby to country manager for the UK, subject to regulatory approval, succeeding Nick Major, who is retiring from the company and the London Market.
Kirby joined BHSI in 2018 and was most recently head of executive & professional lines, UK, having previously held senior roles in financial lines in the London market. She has nearly 20 years’ experience focused on UK and London specialty business.
As Kirby moves into the country manager position, Chris Nixon becomes head of executive & professional lines in the UK. Nixon, who has more than 12 years’ industry experience, joined BHSI in 2019 and was most recently underwriting manager, executive & professional lines.
Marsh has expanded the role of long‑time finance chief Mark McGivney, who will assume additional responsibilities as executive vice president and chief operating officer, effective April 15, while continuing as chief financial officer.
McGivney joined Marsh in 2007 and has held a series of senior finance and operating roles, including chief operating officer and CFO of Mercer and CFO of Marsh Risk, before becoming Marsh’s CFO in 2016. His expanded remit includes leading inorganic growth strategy and co‑ordinating cross‑business initiatives, reflecting Marsh’s active acquisition pipeline and focus on integration.
Separately, Marsh has appointed Janelle Griffith as global logistics practice leader for Marsh Risk, a newly created role in which she will lead the firm’s logistics strategy globally while continuing to head its US & Canada logistics practice. Griffith, based in New York, has nearly 20 years’ experience in insurance broking, risk management, coverage law and logistics operations, including senior roles at Kuehne + Nagel and Hapag‑Lloyd.
