Two major appointments have been announced in the insurance sector in recent days.
B.P. Marsh-backed managing general agent Amiga Specialty has appointed Richard Mills as transactional risks managing director for the UK and Europe.
Based in London, Mills (pictured above, left) will establish the transactional risks line, overseeing strategic positioning, distribution and relationships with carrier partners. He will report to Amiga Specialty managing director Adam Kembrooke.
Mills began his insurance career at Capital Risks in 2018 and was most recently transactional risks director at Nexus Underwriting.
Before moving into insurance, he held legal roles at Proskauer Rose and Linklaters. His appointment marks Amiga’s entry into the transactional risks market, a specialist line covering warranties and indemnities, tax liabilities, and contingent risks that is increasingly in demand amid sustained M&A activity and complex corporate restructurings.
Verisk has named Eric Spear chief technology officer for its Extreme Event Solutions division.
Spear (pictured above, right), who joins from global payments firm Flywire where he was senior vice president of engineering, will lead engineering, quality assurance, and IT functions. His remit includes accelerating product development through AI- and cloud-based architecture, with a focus on catastrophe risk modelling operations.
Extreme Event Solutions provides catastrophe models for more than 120 countries, used by insurers, reinsurers, and governments to assess natural and man-made risks. Verisk said Spear’s appointment supports its strategy to enhance automation, scalability, and resiliency in its modelling capabilities at a time when climate volatility, secondary perils, and severe weather losses are intensifying underwriting scrutiny.
