The UK insurance market is seeing a wave of strategic hires and internal promotions as specialist insurers position themselves for growth and long-term stability. Here are the latest.

Amiga Specialty expands transactional risks capability

Amiga Specialty has bolstered its transactional risks division with new hires to support growth in the UK and European markets.

Sam Batchelor joins as head of transactional risks Europe, reporting to Richard Mills, transactional risks managing director. He is joined by underwriters Meeza Keziah Cabansag and George Brain, who will support underwriting and business development activities.

The expansion underlines Amiga’s ambition to become a leading player in transactional risks, offering warranty & indemnity coverage across the UK and EU.

The appointments follow Amiga’s recent announcement of multi-million-pound capacity via the Accelerant Risk Exchange, with further capacity partnerships expected.

Apollo implements MET leadership changes

Apollo is making key changes in its MET division as part of a planned succession.

Simon Mason, who has been with Apollo since 2013 and instrumental in developing the division, will retire on Jan. 1, 2026. Mason will remain available during the upcoming reinsurance renewals to support a smooth transaction.

Martin Jackson will be promoted to head of MET, while retaining his position as class leader, aviation. Mark Phythian and Ciara Sheikh will assume leadership positions as deputy head of MET and class leader, cargo, respectively, alongside other internal promotions to ensure continuity across the division.
