Independent specialist re/insurance broker Miller has appointed Nick Taylor (pictured above) as head of direct protection and indemnity (P&I). Taylor brings more than 15 years of experience in the sector to his new position.
Before joining Miller, Taylor was head of coastal and island at NorthStandard, where he managed the club’s small ship P&I business. Prior to the merger with North, he held senior roles at Standard Club, including leading the incorporation of an Irish insurer after Brexit and overseeing the separation of the club’s management from Charles Taylor.
Taylor’s background in P&I includes work across Europe, the Americas, and the Middle East, as well as seven years in Singapore leading Standard Club’s Asia-Pacific underwriting function.
At Miller, Taylor will be responsible for developing the direct P&I broking team and enhancing the firm’s offering to marine clients. He will report to Nick Summers, head of direct marine.
“I am excited to welcome Nick to the team as we further expand our marine proposition. His extensive experience across multiple markets, deep expertise in P&I, and proven leadership make him the ideal candidate to lead and develop our direct P&I broking team,” Summers said.
“The marine sector faces a complex risk environment, and I look forward to working closely with Nick and the team to further expand Miller’s offering to meet the changing needs of the maritime insurance market,” Taylor said.
Miller has also continued to strengthen its presence in Asia, appointing Tam Hui Von as a reinsurance broker in its Singapore office in September. Tam brings more than a decade of experience in the insurance industry, including work with cedants, brokers, and reinsurers across key Asian markets such as Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Taiwan.
Earlier this month, Miller also tapped Midori Katayama to lead its Japan Desk in Singapore, further expanding its specialist re/insurance services in the Asia-Pacific region. Katayama brings over 14 years of experience in treaty and facultative reinsurance, with a focus on the Asia-Pacific market.
Miller also recently formed a partnership with Specialty Program Group Canada and NormanMax Syndicate 3939 to launch a parametric earthquake insurance product for commercial property owners in British Columbia. The agreement gives SPG Canada full underwriting authority for the product, which is designed to provide rapid and transparent payouts based on seismic activity data.
