Howden Re has appointed Jonathan Yang (pictured above) as director for Asia Pacific facultative reinsurance, expanding its team in Singapore.

Yang brings more than 22 years of experience in the Asia property and casualty insurance market, including over 15 years specializing in wholesale and facultative reinsurance at major broking firms across Taiwan, mainland China, and Singapore.

Yang’s career includes a recent role as senior vice president at Marsh, where he served from April 2021 to August this year in Singapore. He holds a Master of Arts in Marketing from Durham University, completed in 2009. His background is expected to support Howden Re’s efforts to address the facultative needs of clients throughout the Asia Pacific region.

He will report to Cynthia Cui, managing director and head of Asia-Pacific facultative reinsurance at Howden Re. Cui said, “Jonathan’s deep regional insights and strong relationships will be instrumental in expanding Howden Re’s facultative offering to serve our clients throughout Asia.”

She added that Yang’s appointment is expected to strengthen the company’s ability to deliver client-focused, local solutions, supported by Howden Re’s global expertise.

Yang’s appointment comes as Howden Re continues to build its facultative reinsurance business in the region, with recent hires including Kelly Hatch, Sasa Lazarus, and George Barber, who are based in London and Sydney.

Yang’s arrival is also part of a broader series of appointments and platform launches by Howden Re in Asia Pacific. Earlier this month, the reinsurance specialist named Candy Wong as head of treaty in Hong Kong, leveraging her more than 40 years of reinsurance experience to lead the treaty reinsurance proposition and develop technical capabilities for local clients.

Wong’s appointment followed the launch of a Hong Kong-focused reinsurance broking platform in July, with Roy Wong named managing director to lead treaty development and deliver solutions tailored to the local market.

The firm has also hired senior brokers Brian Chan and Karen Liu in Hong Kong to add local expertise, both joining from Guy Carpenter.
