Specialty re/insurance group Hamilton has named Moussa Thiam (pictured above) as its group head of compliance, effective January 1, 2026, as the Bermuda-headquartered specialty insurer strengthens its governance framework following rapid growth and its 2023 public listing.
Thiam, who joined Hamilton in December 2024, will oversee compliance activities across the company's global operations from his base in London. He will report to Gemma Carreiro, group general counsel.
The appointment comes as Hamilton continues to scale following its initial public offering on the New York Stock Exchange in November 2023. According to financial data, the company's revenue reached $2.33 billion in 2024, an increase of nearly 48% compared to the previous year.
Gross premiums written have almost tripled over five years, rising from $571 million in 2018 to $1.6 billion by the end of 2022.
Carreiro said the move reflects the demands of the current regulatory environment. "We operate in an increasingly complex and interconnected regulatory landscape where maintaining strong standards of compliance is a fundamental component of how we do business," she said.
She added that creating the group-wide position aligns with Hamilton's scale and its approach to governance as a publicly listed company.
Hamilton operates through three underwriting platforms – Hamilton Global Specialty, Hamilton Select, and Hamilton Re – with operations spanning Lloyd's of London, Ireland, Bermuda, and the United States. The company, founded in 2013, employs more than 500 people globally.
In his new role, Thiam will be responsible for ensuring consistent compliance standards across all three platforms and collaborating with senior leadership to integrate compliance practices into operations.
The appointment follows Thiam's tenure as head of compliance for Hamilton Global Specialty and Hamilton Re. Carreiro described him as someone who understands the business and can work effectively across teams and regions.
The move is also the latest in a series of leadership changes at Hamilton. Earlier this year, the company named Michelle Li as CFO of Hamilton Global Specialty, adding to the leadership team that Alex Baker has been assembling since becoming CEO of the unit on September 1, 2025.
