Hamilton Insurance Group has appointed Michelle Li (pictured above) as chief financial officer of Hamilton Global Specialty, the company's London-based underwriting platform.
The re/insurer announced the move as part of its ongoing leadership development within its global finance operations.
Li will be based in London and will work alongside Alex Baker, chief executive officer of Hamilton Global Specialty. She will report to Brian Deegan, group chief accounting officer, and serve as a member of the company's global finance function.
Baker took on the CEO role at Hamilton Global Specialty on September 1, 2025, succeeding Adrian Daws. He previously served as the company's group chief risk officer. Li's appointment adds to the leadership team Baker has been assembling since assuming his current position.
Li joins Hamilton from RenaissanceRe, where she spent more than 14 years in a series of senior positions. Her most recent role was SVP, head of finance Lloyd's, for RenaissanceRe of Europe. Prior to RenaissanceRe, she worked at PwC for more than five years in Bermuda and Canada.
Li holds credentials as a Certified Public Accountant and Certified Internal Auditor.
Baker commented on the appointment, noting Li's background in the Lloyd's market. "I'm delighted Michelle has joined our leadership team at Hamilton Global Specialty," he said. "She brings exactly the blend of finance discipline, Lloyd's market knowledge and collaborative leadership we value at Hamilton."
Baker added that Li's experience would support the company's operational objectives. "Her expertise will help us keep our strategic focus and momentum across our underwriting platform," he said.
Deegan also commented on the hire, pointing to Li's track record in finance leadership roles. "Michelle's strong record of financial leadership makes her an excellent addition to our global Finance function," he said. "I look forward to working closely with her as she steps into this key leadership role within our global Finance team."
