Global risk and reinsurance specialist Guy Carpenter has appointed Gus Katsuras as managing director.

In an announcement shared on LinkedIn, the company welcomed Katsuras to its leadership team, noting that he “brings extensive experience in account executive roles, combining client management with new business development.” Guy Carpenter added that he will play a key role in supporting property and casualty (P&C) clients across Canada and the United States.

“Really excited to join the team and embark upon this new chapter in my career,” Katsuras said in his LinkedIn post.

Katsuras joins after serving as executive vice president at Gallagher Re from December 2021 to September 2025. Prior to that he held roles at Willis Re and Aon Reinsurance Brokerage.

This appointment comes amid a period of evolving dynamics in the reinsurance sector. Guy Carpenter reported that on Jan. 1, 2025, renewals for non-loss-impacted property catastrophe programs saw rate reductions of 5% to 15%. Its proprietary global property catastrophe rate-on-line index fell 6.6% at the same renewal cycle – the first decline since 2017. Furthermore, Guy Carpenter projects total dedicated reinsurance capital will reach nearly US$650 billion in 2025, up from just over US$600 billion in 2024.

In addition, according to the firm’s data, global insured losses reached nearly US$70 billion in the first half of 2025, driven largely by the wildfires in Los Angeles. Yet despite elevated losses, the reinsurance market remains robust, supported by strong balance sheets and disciplined underwriting.

Mid-year renewal trends point to moderation in pricing: for example, excess-of-loss placements saw rate increases of about 10% to 20% for loss-impacted programs, while non-loss-impacted risks experienced continued rate reductions.
