Gallagher Re has hired Georgina Meyer (pictured above) as executive director for its UK property division, the reinsurance broker has announced.
Meyer joins from Aon, where she spent seven years as a broker. She brings more than 20 years of experience in the reinsurance industry, with a focus on catastrophe reinsurance and retrocession.
Prior to Aon, Meyer served as vice president at Beach and Associates from 2015 to 2019. She previously held the role of divisional director at BMS Group for nearly a decade, where she worked as a placing broker on the retrocession team handling catastrophe business for a predominantly Lloyd's client base.
Meyer began her career in 2003 as a trainee at Denis M Clayton before joining BMS Group in 2005. She completed the Chartered Insurance Institute's ACII qualification in 2008.
She holds a bachelor's degree in economics and politics from the University of Bath.
Meyer's appointment follows a series of hires at Gallagher Re. The firm recently added Rachel Barnes as a senior property retro broker in Bermuda and named Scott Cobon as head of strategic solutions in Bermuda, where he will work with Gallagher Securities across its Capital Advisory and ILS teams.
The reinsurance broker has also been expanding its specialty lines capabilities. Andrew Phelan joined as chairman of global credit, surety (excluding the US), and political risk, based in Bermuda. Phelan brings more than 25 years of experience and previously served as head of specialty lines (Bermuda) at MS Amlin.
The hiring activity comes as Gallagher Re prepares for a leadership transition. Chairman Patrick "Paddy" Jago will retire at the close of 2026 after a 50-year career in the insurance and reinsurance industry.
CEO Tom Wakefield said Jago has been "instrumental" to the success and growth of Gallagher Re. The firm has not publicly named a successor.
