Gallagher Re has appointed Mark Braithwaite as chief commercial officer for North America, a role in which he will help strengthen links between local offerings and the global reinsurance platform.
Based in New York, Braithwaite brings two decades of reinsurance industry experience to the position. He most recently served as a broker at Lockton Re, where he worked for nearly six years, focusing on client placements and market relationships across North American business lines.
Before that, he spent more than 14 years with Willis Re, where he advanced to executive vice president, handling a range of treaty and facultative placements for US and global clients.
Braithwaite holds a bachelor of science degree in mathematical decision sciences from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In his new role at Gallagher Re, he is expected to collaborate with regional teams and global leadership to align the firm's commercial strategy with its broader reinsurance objectives.
The appointment is part of a series of leadership additions Gallagher Re has made over the past year to strengthen its global platform. Last month, the reinsurance broker hired Anna Dill as executive vice president to lead its US large account strategy. Dill brings more than 15 years of experience in legacy liability origination and client advocacy, with a focus on complex risk programs for large corporate clients.
Earlier this year, Gallagher Re promoted Ben Wathen to chief claims officer, giving him oversight of the global claims advocacy team. Wathen had joined the firm in April 2024 as head of complex claims, following more than 20 years in claims management, underwriting, and broking.
In January, the firm appointed Karsten Lüers as regional director for credit, surety, and political risk in Munich. Lüers, with over 23 years of experience, previously worked with major global brokers and reinsurers, focusing on structured credit and political risk solutions.
In May, Gallagher Re also added Sarah Maune as vice president in its life solutions team. Maune has more than 16 years in the life reinsurance sector, working on structuring, pricing, and execution of life reinsurance transactions.
