Gallagher Re has joined the Association of Bermuda Insurers and Reinsurers (ABIR), becoming the latest reinsurance brokerage to enter the organization’s membership ranks.
Gallagher Re has approximately 2,400 employees and operates across 30 countries. Its business presence in Bermuda dates to 1975, when Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. first incorporated an entity on the island.
In addition to Gallagher Re, parent company Gallagher currently provides services in Bermuda through a specialty insurance business launched in 2024 and its alternative risk management unit, Artex.
The firm provides reinsurance coverage in multiple lines, including aerospace, marine and energy, construction, property, retro property catastrophe, casualty, financial lines, life, accident and health, cyber, motor, credit and surety, mortgage, and agriculture.
Gallagher Re now sits alongside Aon, Marsh McLennan/Guy Carpenter, and Lockton Re on ABIR’s Broker Advisory Cabinet, which facilitates collaboration between brokers and reinsurers operating on the island.
Mark Cloutier, chair of ABIR and executive chair of Aspen Insurance Group, said Gallagher Re brings expertise and leadership to the group’s broker membership.
“Their membership strengthens the collective voice of Bermuda’s reinsurance market, and we are pleased to welcome Gallagher Re to ABIR,” Cloutier said.
Gallagher Re’s chief commercial officer, Lara Mowery (pictured above), said Bermuda remains an important center for global risk solutions.
“Bermuda is a key market for global risk solutions, and joining ABIR marks an important step for Gallagher Re as we continue our growth on the island.”
The addition of Gallagher Re brings ABIR’s membership to 34 companies, including global insurers, reinsurers, and intermediaries. Collectively, ABIR members accounted for over $171 billion in gross written premium in 2023, an 18% increase over the previous year.
ABIR CEO John Huff noted that member companies address a wide range of risks, including natural catastrophe, climate, mortgage, geopolitical, and cyber exposures.
“We’re pleased to welcome Gallagher Re to our membership, as a valued participant in our broker community, which plays a vital role in supporting growth and innovation in Bermuda’s re/insurance market,” Huff said.
